When snow and ski gear actually goes on sale in Australia

Australian snow retail runs on an inverted calendar against most of the gear's origin markets, and the price cycle follows the calendar rather than the gear. Knowing the shape of it is worth more than watching for a sale.

The cycle

• April to June — new season lands at full price. Pre-season sales exist but are shallow, and stock is complete. This is when you buy if you need a specific size.
• July to August — peak season. Prices hold. Discounting here is narrow and usually on last season's carry-over.
• September to October — the real clearance. Season ends, stores need the floor space, and this is where the genuine lows are. Size availability collapses in step.
• November onward — Black Friday catches the tail of it, and remaining stock can go lower still, but by then you are buying whatever is left.

The trade-off nobody states

The cheapest price and the size you need are on opposite ends of this. Waiting for October gets you 40% off a board in whatever length is still on the rack. Buying in May gets you the right length at full price. A tracker does not solve that — it just lets you see how much the waiting is actually worth on the specific item, instead of guessing.

Watching across stores
